<p>A few years ago I released a book whose title was more reminiscent of a line out of &#8220;There&#8217;s Something About Mary&#8221; than a serious work on fitness. &#8220;<a href="http://www.7minutemuscle.com/aff/dailyfitne?page=halfoff"rel="nofollow"  onclick="window.open('http://www.7minutemuscle.com/aff/dailyfitne?page=halfoff');return false;">7 Minute Muscle</a>&#8221; &#8212; yep, it&#8217;s getting more and more difficult to distinguish fact from parody.</p>
<p>Since that time its kissing cousin, &#8220;<a href="http://www.7minutemuscle.com/aff/dailyfitne?page=halfoff"rel="nofollow"  onclick="window.open('http://www.7minutemuscle.com/aff/dailyfitne?page=halfoff');return false;">7 Minute Body</a>&#8221;, has been released, featuring a complete in-home version of the same workout principles covered in <a href="http://www.7minutemuscle.com/aff/dailyfitne?page=halfoff"rel="nofollow"  onclick="window.open('http://www.7minutemuscle.com/aff/dailyfitne?page=halfoff');return false;">7 Minute Muscle</a>, as found below:</p>

<p>Here&#8217;s the real irony:  Of the 127 testimonials I&#8217;ve received so far that I deem worthy of publishing on the web, over forty were from fitness professionals. I&#8217;m not talking about &#8220;doctors&#8221; with a gut as large as their paycheck. I&#8217;m speaking of men and women with both academic and real-world experience in the fitness and bodybuilding world.</p>
<p>There were exceptions of course. My friend John Berardi, while saying some nice things about the work, couldn&#8217;t endorse it due to the emphasis on shorter training sessions. That&#8217;s cool. Everyone has a different approach. But the overwhelming number of folks with consonants behind their names &#8212; those who read the book and applied the principles &#8212; had wonderful things to say.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s a reason for that:  The workout protocol is based on the science of hypertrophy as well as psychophysiology, the study of the mind/body connection.</p>
<p>I will delve into the mental aspects of the protocols in a later article. For now, since most of you are experienced, educated and (dare I say it) hard-core, let&#8217;s delve into the meat.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.7minutemuscle.com/aff/dailyfitne?page=halfoff"rel="nofollow"  onclick="window.open('http://www.7minutemuscle.com/aff/dailyfitne?page=halfoff');return false;">7 Minute Muscle</a> (and 7 Minute Body) is primarily a density-based training system. It demands varying rep ranges done within specific time periods. The protocol factors six of the primary variables of hypertrophy, or muscle growth:  Intensity, Load, Volume, Density, Time and Force. (Time includes rest intervals as well as the time required to perform a given task.)</p>
<p>A layman&#8217;s take on one of the basic laws of physics states that time and energy are interrelated. Doing the same amount of work in less time demands more energy, which translates into more power. While power is a factor in training, our interest is focused on forcing muscle growth and adaptation. This is also an element of time and energy. More energy expended in less time = more power.</p>
<p>If you break down the typical 3-4 set bench press routine, with reps starting at 12 and ending in the 4-6 range, with longer rest intervals between heavier sets, you&#8217;ll find that the aggregate weight lifted is &#8220;less&#8221; than a protocol like 7 Minute Muscle, which uses &#8216;less&#8217; weight (easier on the joints) but demands more work in less time. In other words, X amount of repetitions done with Y amount of weight in just 5 minutes (phase 1 of our two-phase protocol) ends up being greater than your typical 3-4 set protocol, despite the fact that more weight is used in the latter.</p>
<p>Other routines, of course, utilize this factor of density. Vince Gironda&#8217;s infamous 8 sets of 8, EDT and so-forth. 7 Minute Muscle goes a bit further by varying rest, load factors and repetition range. Reps will vary from as low as one rep to as much as ten, and all of this is at the trainee&#8217;s discretion.</p>
<p>They have only one real objective: Increase the aggregate repetition count from one training session to the next. Since time is limited (broken down into two phases:  A Power Phase of no more than 5 repetitions and a Mass Phase of no more than 10 repetitions) the trainee is given a system that more accurately measure the seventh and most crucial factor of hypertrophy:  Progression.</p>
<p>More work in less time. Variable repetition ranges. Variable rest intervals. And all in seven minutes (for beginners.) Intermediate and advanced-level trainees are given 14 and 21-minute protocols if they wish to implement them. I myself rarely go beyond 14 minutes, as that is all that&#8217;s required to stimulate muscle growth.</p>
<p>I will cover health factors, cardiovascular work, ab training, and the science of mind and body in future articles. For now, give 7 Minute Muscle a shot. <p><strong>Cancer sucks.</strong></p>
<p>Think that&#8217;s a naughty thing to say?</p>
<p>Consider this:</p>
<p>I was speaking at a conference last week when I glanced out into the audience. I saw a muscular dude with a t-shirt that said, in huge letters no-less&#8230;</p>
<p>&#8220;F &#8211; - K CANCER.&#8221;</p>
<p>There were NO dashes in his version&#8230; that was added by me for your sake.</p>
<p>I mentioned from the stage that I loved his shirt. Sure, it was profane, but I hate cancer so much I didn&#8217;t care.</p>
<p>Afterwards we struck up a friendship. He was an Aussie rugby player and one super-nice guy. We hit the gym together and managed to come to agreement on the fact that American football is superior. (A bit of levity in an otherwise somber article never hurts, right?)</p>
<p>What perfect timing&#8230; his t-shirt, that is.</p>
<p><strong>This week, it is ALL happening.</strong></p>
<p>An unreal number of fitness professionals, including myself, are donating their time and energies into whacking this thing called cancer into submission.</p>

<p>My good friend Scott Colby started this fundraiser when his uncle was battling for his life with the &#8220;C-word&#8221;&#8230; a battle, I&#8217;m sad to say, he lost last week. Our thoughts are with him.</p>
<p>But his fight was not in vain. His fight spurred this movement and my contribution, however silly or meaningless it may in fact be.</p>
<p>So here we go:</p>
<p>I have discovered the <u>CURE</u> for cancer.</p>
<p>CURE as in C.U.R.E.</p>
<p>&#8220;C&#8221; is the most important.</p>
<p><strong>&#8220;C&#8221; is for CASH.</strong></p>
<p>If we spent 1/10th of the money we spend on war and started dumping CASH into cancer rather than crude oil into the Gulf, we&#8217;d cure cancer in about as much time as it took me to write this article.</p>
<p>That was overly optimistic&#8230; but who cares. It&#8217;s the point that counts.</p>
<p>Let me lay it on the line for you&#8230; and if I lose subscribers for this, too freakin&#8217; bad.</p>
<p>Right now Americans spend billions of dollars on pure junk food&#8230; and you Brits are not that far behind. British kids are gaining fat at nearly twice the rate of American kids, and our children are among the most obese in the history of HISTORY.</p>
<p>Fat kids usually, but not always, means fat parents&#8230; or lazy parents. Or both.</p>
<p>Again, shoot me. It&#8217;s the brutal truth.</p>
<p>Why does this matter?</p>
<p>It matters because the math, unlike the seriousness of this problem, is crystal clear. Americans alone spend $25 more per month on food than they need, and this was from a study done in 2009. The recent data is not even out yet.</p>
<p>$25 more than is necessary to sustain and nourish the bodies and minds of every member of a household of four.</p>
<p>And that $25 is spent entirely on junk food.</p>
<p>Note that this does not take into account eating out, something the average family does at least four times per week.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s just be conservative and say we only waste $25 per family of four on food we do not need. Fair?</p>
<p>The population of The United States is a tad over 300,000,000.</p>
<p>Divide that by four.</p>
<p>That&#8217;s 75,000,000.</p>
<p>To be fair, this is not a perfect equation. I&#8217;ll deduct a reasonable percent from our total for a fudge (pun) factor.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s run with 50,000,000. Nice, round, nifty number.</p>
<p>Multiply that by $25.</p>
<p>Total: $1,250,000,000 dollars.</p>
<p><u>PER MONTH</u>.</p>
<p>Folks, that&#8217;s $15 BILLION dollars per year that could, in a perfect world, go to fight cancer. Or AIDS. Or education&#8230;</p>
<p>But let&#8217;s stick to cancer.</p>
<p>Want to know what we currently spend on cancer?</p>
<p>No, you really don&#8217;t. It&#8217;s not even close to that.</p>
<p>Now for the real sticker shock: Due to cancer-related illness, medical costs, insurance premiums, and loss of labor, cancer costs us $150 BILLION per year in economic loss.</p>
<p>QUICK: Name one company who is led by a human with a single brain cell who would NOT spend $15 billion to save $150 billion.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ll wait&#8230;</p>
<p>That&#8217;s what I thought.</p>

<p>Good. Now we understand the serious nature of this, one of nature&#8217;s most efficient and vile terrorists.</p>
<p><strong>&#8220;R&#8221; = RESEARCH.</strong></p>
<p>Cash alone is not going to cut it. Cash has to be funneled directly into research and not into some bureaucrat&#8217;s back pocket. The only way this is going to happen is when every single one of us gets pissed off enough to complain about it.</p>
<p>Remember, we still hold the power of the vote.</p>
<p>Vote smart, then stay on their ass&#8230; make them follow through.</p>

<p>If you have struggled with your weight for a while it is highly likely that you have tried a number of the fad diets that are on the market right now. How successful have these diets been for you? Probably not very. <p><strong>Don&#8217;t drink anything but water</strong>. You might not be ready to believe this, but the best way to cut down on your calorie count each day is to simply cut out all of the juices, sodas, energy drinks, booze and other non-water drinks you consume. Cold water is the best to drink. Water does not have any calories.</p>
<p>It helps you stay hydrated and contributes to your health. It all depends on the type of soda you drink but cutting out even two servings of the stuff can reduce your caloric intake by around two hundred calories. In addition to cutting down on your calorie intake, replacing these other drinks with water helps you cut down on things like sugar, high fructose corn syrup and other nefarious ingredients that do nothing for your health.</p>
<p>Always remember that no diet is going to be successful without accompanying it with an <strong>exercise</strong> routine. You could cut your caloric intake down to just a few hundred calories each day (which is not something that we would recommend you try) and if you aren&#8217;t exercising you still won&#8217;t lose any weight. Even something as simple as going for a walk every day can help you with your weight loss routine. Exercise increases muscle tone, energy level and focus on the overall weight loss goals you have.</p>
<p><strong>Keep a simple food journal</strong>. This probably seems like a lot of work but it can be a big help.</p>
<p>A food journal is not kept because you want to track every single calorie that goes into your mouth (though that could be helpful later on when you need to plan out your exercise routine for the day). Keeping a food journal can also help you track your cravings and the types of tastes you gravitate toward. You don&#8217;t need to buy an expensive journal, just an inexpensive spiral notebook will do.</p>
<p>The key to a successful diet is to find a way to <strong>replace the junkie tastes you love so much with healthier alternatives.</strong> For example: eating actual strawberries instead of strawberry flavored candy or ice cream. Keeping a food journal helps you do this, which means you have a better chance of losing weight and finding success with your diet.</p>

<p>One of the most popular searched terms on the internet is <strong>Fast Weight Loss</strong>. There is no denying that we all want to lose weight fast just like we want our meals cooked fast and our exercise programs to be finished fast.</p>
<p>However, fast weight loss isn&#8217;t always the best way to go, simply because some of the methods used for fast weight loss are unhealthy or difficult to keep doing for a long enough period of time. You want methods that you can stick with so that you don&#8217;t lose the weight quickly then regain it just as quickly.</p>
<p>However, there are a few key things that are known to help speed up weight loss without harming your health ( as a matter of fact they are good for you ) and these you can do long term to keep the weight from coming back on.</p>
<p><strong>1) Water is your best friend and You&#8217;ve heard that Over and Over Again</strong><br />
So why aren&#8217;t you listening? Drinking plenty of water is an excellent way to help your body burn more fat, as well as release excess water you may have been retaining.  Experts recommend a minimum of 64 ounces of water daily, but even more than that is safe to drink as long as you don&#8217;t overdo it. You should sip all during the day and not guzzle it all at one time.  You will also find that by drinking more water your skin will look clearer and better and you&#8217;re less apt to get wrinkles before your time. Avoid water and you&#8217;ll look older than you should.</p>
<p><strong>2) Sugar is NOT your friend</strong> <strong>in Fact It&#8217;s Your Enemy</strong><br />
Refined white cane sugar has a detrimental effect on the body, namely because of the way it sharply elevates blood glucose levels.  This causes your pancreas to secrete insulin to bring blood glucose back to normal levels, and too much of this up-and-down fluctuation can wreak havoc on your body.</p>
<p>For losing weight quickly, there are few actions more powerful than eliminating white refined sugar (and its cousin, high fructose corn syrup) from your diet.  If you have a sweet tooth, you&#8217;ll find that fruit is a great alternative, and so is low-glycemic agave nectar.  Sugar filled drinks can also pack on the pounds quickly and the more sugar you have the more you will want. It&#8217;s a vicious circle.</p>
<p>You don&#8217;t necessarily have to give up sweets completely &#8211; just choose healthier options to satisfy your sweet tooth.</p>
<p><strong>3) Sodium (salt) makes you retain water</strong> <strong>and can add to high blood pressure</strong><br />
Reducing your sodium intake is another way to help speed up weight loss, simply because eating high amounts of sodium makes most people retain excess water weight.  Not to mention that a diet high in sodium can contribute to hypertension (high blood pressure). If you read package labels you will find added salt and sugar in almost everything that is processed.</p>
<p><strong>4) Starvation or having under 1,000 calories per day is not just bad it&#8217;s awful</strong><br />
People often think that reducing their caloric intake down to almost nothing is a great way to lose weight quickly, but all it does is kick their bodies into self-preservation mode and slow down their metabolism.</p>
<p>A much better approach is to eat lean, low-calorie foods frequently throughout the day.  This keeps your metabolism running strong, burning fat and losing weight.  Not to mention you&#8217;ll have more energy and feel more satisfied all day long.  Also including a moderate amount of heart-healthy fats (like those found in olive oil and avacados) can keep you from feeling hungry.</p>
<p><strong>5) Burning more calories by moving &amp; exercising</strong><br />
Cardio and weight training exercises are known for their calorie-burning power, and effective weight loss plans will focus on creating a &#8220;calorie deficit&#8221;.  To lose one pound, you need to either reduce your calorie intake by 3500 calories, or burn off 3500 calories with exercise.  Doing a combination of both has been proven to be most effective; for example reducing your daily caloric intake, AND burning calories via cardio exercise.</p>
<p>So, if you reduced your calories by 250 daily (1750 weekly), and burned off 250 calories daily (1750 weekly), you would lose 1 pound that week. If you find that you are not healthy enough for heavy exercise or you don&#8217;t have the time just try to keep your body moving. Keep your cell phone &amp; TV remote in another room &#8211; so that you have to get up and move. Try to walk or run in place during tv commercials or during your favorite song. The more you move the more you&#8217;ll want to move since you&#8217;ll feel and look so much better.</p>
<p>Keep in mind that other factors can come into play so some weeks you may lose more and other weeks you may lose less.</p>
<p><strong>6) Fiber keep moving toxic waste out of your system<br />
</strong>Increasing your fiber intake is another good way to speed weight loss, for a few reasons.  First, eating high-fiber foods helps you feel fuller longer so you aren&#8217;t tempted to overeat.  Fiber is also helpful in slowing the absorption of sugar into your bloodstream, which reduces the impact of high-glycemic foods and minimizes fluctuations in blood glucose levels.  Finally, a fiber rich diet helps &#8220;keep things moving&#8221; in your digestive tract so you clean your colon and eliminate waste more easily. When you burn calorie you product carbon waste and fiber and water help to remove this from your system. If you don&#8217;t and your cells are filled with carbon it will slow down your fat burning furnace.</p>
<p><strong>7) Try to Reduce stress</strong><br />
Last but not least, managing your stress better can help you lose weight more quickly.  The hormone cortisol is prevalent in the stressed-out body, and cortisol contributes to the accumulation of belly fat.  It&#8217;s virtually impossible to lead a completely stress-free life, but there are endless ways to better manage your stress so it doesn&#8217;t wreak havoc on your body.  Try meditating daily for 10-15 minutes, deep breathing exercises, or a soothing exercise like yoga.</p>
<p>Pilates, which also can help you burn calories and firm and shape your muscles can also help reduce stress so it&#8217;s a great addition to your weight loss efforts.<br />
Just follow the simple tips above (add more if you can) and you&#8217;ll see fast weight loss.

<p>Have you noticed how some foods make you feel or look fatter and others make you feel or look skinnier? What happens when you eat these foods is you create more work for your body during the digestion process. The reason why your body works hard and why the food takes longer to digest is because they are made up of fibrous substances that the body cannot easily digest.</p>
<p>The broken-down version: Your body burns more calories than the total amount of calories you consumed in a meal. That means you&#8217;ve created enough energy to <a href="http://ezinearticles.com/?Acai-Berry---Brazilian-Acai-Berry-Diet-and-Weight-Loss&amp;id=4410477"rel="nofollow"  target="_blank">burn off the calories</a> from the food you ate IN ADDITION TO stored body fat! That is how food can speed up your metabolism. Here&#8217;s a real-life example.</p>
<p>Let&#8217;s say you have a small salad or fruit cup that contains about 80 calories and it causes 130 calories to be burned off while your body digests it. Then what that means is your body has used all 80 calories from your meal IN ADDITION TO 50 calories of stored body fat. Now you have an overall calorie loss.</p>
<p>For most of everyone, the opposite is more true. We enjoy a rich chocolate brownie that contains 240 calories but because it&#8217;s so easy to digest the sugar, our body only uses 75 calories to do so. Now we have GAINED 165 calories that will be stored on our bodies as fat just in case it needs it for fuel later. So unless you work out on a regular basis to burn up those calories faster, they&#8217;re going to collect around your waistline and create a bulging midsection.</p>
<p>You can easily search the internet and find lists and lists of negative calorie foods to add to your meals. Make these foods that speed up metabolism a part of your menu everyday and you will begin to see and feel the natural changes that will happen to your body.</p>

<p>I took a big, huge, massive sigh of <strong>relief</strong> today.</p>
<p>Finally&#8230; the FDA did something right when it comes to bogus &#8220;magic&#8221; diet-fatburn pills.</p>
<p>A panel of experts reviewed Vivus Inc.&#8217;s new wonder-pill &#8220;Qnexa&#8221; today. </p>
<p>They gave it the thumbs-down.</p>
<p>Why?</p>
<p>Oh&#8230; pesky little reported side-effects like&#8230; (are you ready for this?)&#8230;</p>
<p>     <strong>Heart Attacks<br />
     Stroke<br />
     Increased Risk of Suicide (yikes!)<br />
     Memory/Concentration Loss</strong></p>
<p>You know&#8230; &#8220;minor&#8221; stuff like that.</p>
<p>GEEZ. What the hell are these drug companies thinking? </p>
<p>Oh, right&#8230; </p>
<p>  <strong>   Quick-Fix =<br />
     Big-Bucks</strong></p>
<p>Got it.</p>
<p>So, I am going to believe that YOU are much smarter than the morons who tried to get this drug past the FDA.</p>
<p>I&#8217;m going to assume you want a solution to this obesity pandemic and your own fatloss issues (if you have them) that do NOT involve risking your life for a thinner you.</p>
<p><strong><em>&#8220;Oh, Marge&#8230; she looks so thin in her casket&#8230;&#8221;</em></strong></p>
<p>THIS IS NOT A GOOD EULOGY! : )</p>
<p>Listen: I get it. I really do. </p>
<p>I&#8217;m an athlete and we are always looking for tricks to help increase our performance. But your body is simply too smart for these fatloss-pills people are trying to pass off as &#8220;a break-through medical discovery.&#8221; </p>
<p>Nonsense&#8230; more like heart-breaking medical waste of time. </p>
<p>One day&#8230; perhaps even in my lifetime&#8230; someone will invent a chemical that actually works to shed bodyfat without harming the body. That will be a great day for all of us.</p>
<p>Even so, I can all but promise you that this chemical will have its nasty side-effects and/or be limited in duration or power. </p>
<p>Nothing, repeat NOTHING you can pop in your mouth will give you the JOY that managing your dietplan and bodyweight can give you.</p>
<p>NOTHING!  </p>
<p>It&#8217;s one of the greatest feelings in the world.</p>
<p>And here&#8217;s a fantastic clue for you:  The reason we want to be thin is because of the FEELING it gives us. Most everything we do is based on feelings.</p>
<p>Quick-fixes negate the most powerful thing about feelings:  Earning the right to have them! </p>
<p>Think of it this way: Would you feel more alive and powerful if you climbed a mountain or if you took a helicopter ride to the summit? </p>
<p>Sure, the helicopter is easy&#8230; but which is more personally rewarding?</p>
<p>Think of your own body transformation goals as your personal mountain to climb.</p>
<p>No helicopters&#8230; just really good guides (I volunteer) and solid climbing tools (like a great real-world dietplan, solid workouts that work WITH your schedule, and realistic but exciting goals.)  </p>
<p>Your goals will become your base camps along your summit of your personal journey to the best you possible.</p>
<p>Color me silly, but I think that sounds FAR more empowering and rewarding that popping pills.</p>
<p>As you probably know I wrote one of the top books in the world on &#8220;real-world&#8221; weighttloss (spelled that way so the spambox won&#8217;t eat your email&#8230; : ) I made this dietary System as easy as possible&#8230; but NO plan is &#8220;easy&#8221; and there is NO quick-fixes out there without serious pricetags.</p>
<p>That said, I have some &#8220;rebel tricks&#8221; to share with you today&#8230; and they won&#8217;t put you six feet under before your time.</p>

<p>By &#8220;dirty&#8221; I mean down and dirty&#8230; as in taken with my crappy iPhone camera by my friend and guru trainer Roland&#8230; while looking into a mirror&#8230; with no lighting, tan&#8230;</p>
<p>Well, you get the point.</p>
<p>Here&#8217;s an example&#8230; this was me listening to Nine Inch Nail&#8217;s song <cite>Vessel</cite> so I wasn&#8217;t exactly all-smiles&#8230; but I like listening to aggressive music when I train. My training partner/trainer Roland took this shot while I was staring in the mirror contemplating the next Smith Machine Press set with only 40 seconds of rest and using 225 pounds&#8230; yikers&#8230; my aching delts!</p>

<p>Keep reading&#8230; I&#8217;ll explain. </p>
<p>First, notice the definition in the arms, delts, and chest&#8230; (kidding&#8230; : )</p>
<p>But I really am in the best shape of my career, or rather heading that way, carrying almost 30 pounds more muscle than my pictures from <a href="http://www.fitover40.com/aff/dailyfitne"rel="nofollow"  onclick="window.open('http://www.fitover40.com/aff/dailyfitne');return false;">Fit Over 40</a> (taken right before my 40th birthday). </p>
<p>So&#8230;</p>
<h2>What Gives?<br />A 7-Day Deal, That&#8217;s What!</h2>
<p>Before I get to the REAL deal, I want you to get this:</p>
<p><strong>I started my peak-cycle training only 3 weeks ago!</strong></p>

<p>Crapy, crappy iPhone pics&#8230; I know&#8230; but hey, give me a tan and a studio and I&#8217;d look better, not worse&#8230; so why not show you what I see in the mirror? It&#8217;s more fun that way. And more honest, although I do enjoy real photo shoots.</p>
<h2>Now For The Really Good Part&#8230;</h2>
<p>After these shots I enjoyed a huge slice of Key Lime Pie (my favorite) and some cheesy bread later in the day. </p>
<p>You see, I practice what I preach in regards to <a href="http://www.everyotherdaydiet.com/aff/dailyfitne"rel="nofollow"  onclick="window.open('http://www.everyotherdaydiet.com/aff/dailyfitne');return false;">My Every Other Day Diet System of Eating</a> &#8230; and that&#8217;s not all:</p>
<p>I trained my abs and calves today. <h2>Just For Bodybuilders?</h2>
<p>Hardly. In fact I wrote both books for the masses. I just included advanced sections in each for athletes and bodybuilders like me. </p>
<p>Let&#8217;s be blunt:  If you want &#8220;any&#8221; amount of muscle added to your frame (and you should&#8230; muscle burns calories around the clock and creates those nice curves you want) then you need to train with resistance. The only difference between the way I train and the way most people (non-bodybuilders) train is the level of intensity and (in my case) I train a bit longer than my 14-minute protocol during a peak. But as you can see, I&#8217;m already IN near-peak condition before my longer bouts begin in the gym. Body fat: 6.2% (measured with calipers.) Weight: 214 pounds.</p>
<p>Again, not bad for a (nearly) 47-year-old natural athlete!</p>
<p>But this isn&#8217;t about me&#8230; well, it kinda is as these shots were so &#8220;dirty&#8221; I really dig &#8216;em&#8230; I like the raw look better than the studio shots most of the time&#8230; : ) No way&#8230;</p>

<p>A lot of people nowadays would give anything, even spend thousands to millions of dollars each year just for the sake of obtaining a flat stomach. To say the least, there are a lot more than 200 ab exercise devices in the marketplace all claiming that they can give you a flat stomach or even a six pack abs.</p>
<p>You have the ab do-it, ab roller, the ab dolly, the ab rock-it, and many more exercise machines out in the marketplace. You would believe that with all of these cool equipment being hawked that many people would be walking around with a lean, good, abs. But regrettably, that&#8217;s not usually the case. A lot of them, if not all of these products will provide little assist as you try to flatten your belly. That&#8217;s simply because these physical exercise contraptions simply can&#8217;t remove the layer of blubber that lies on top of your abs.</p>
<p>So that you will be able to reach your goal of thinning your mid-section, you have to get a basic knowledge of how the ab muscles function and how your entire body metabolizes or burns those fat inside your cells. Everyone has a flat stomach. It&#8217;s just that some of them are covered with excess weight.</p>
<p>The greatest way for you to get those sexy mid-section is to do a combo of strength training (placing an additional focus on the ab area), cardiovascular exercises (short, intensive workouts like sprints), and a stable blood glucose or sugar level to maintain you from adding even more fat. Will less sugar in the blood, your body will use up the fat as a source of energy. And this you loose fat in that manner. You have to complete some type of gradually increasing strength training. The ab muscle is primarily used to flex your torso forward. But you will find also muscles that flex your torso to the side and other muscles that rotate it. Often you will see people on their ab roller each day doing lots of crunches or sit ups.</p>

<p>Another good article appeared today in the fitness section of MSNBC.</p>
<p>Since you&#8217;re busy, I&#8217;ll do a quick summary of the article &#8212; the good stuff, the bad stuff, and what you need to do today to get started&#8230;</p>
<p>First, you need to know this&#8230;</p>
<p>And this will probably shock you&#8230;</p>
<p>Rarely,  if EVER, do you need to suppress your appetite!</p>
<p>The real secret is to increase your metabolism&#8230; the rate at which your body uses food for fuel.</p>
<p>Then being hungry is a good thing&#8230; as long as you&#8217;re eating the right foods at the right time.</p>
<p>Jon Benson&#8217;s &#8220;Favorite Foods&#8221; plan is a great way to do this&#8230;</p>

<p>But let&#8217;s say you want to curb your appetite at night&#8230;. that&#8217;s the time most people really lose it on a dietplan. Even on a plan that<br />
ASKS you to eat frequently like mine, there are times where  night-time cravings need to be put to sleep.</p>
<p>So use these tips from the article to ease the urge to eat at night:</p>
<p>1.<strong> Protein First</strong></p>
<p>As Jon stresses in his dietplan, &#8220;Rise and shine with protein.&#8221;  But  what does this have to do with night-time cravings?</p>
<p>Everything.</p>
<p>Set the body up to use your own fat-stores for fuel by eating protein in the morning and your appetite FOR fatty foods goes way down during the day and the night. Protein is &#8220;thermogenic&#8221;, meaning it helps increase your metabolism. It also acts as a natural appetite regulator.</p>
<p>Notice I said &#8220;regulator&#8221; and not &#8220;suppressant.&#8221; That&#8217;s because you only need to regulate your appetite, no matter how much bodyfat you desire to drop.</p>

<p>2.<strong> Go For The Grapefruit</strong></p>
<p>In a study at the Nutrition and Metabolic Research Center at the Scripps Clinic in San Diego, people who ate half a grapefruit with each meal lost an average of 3.6 pounds in three months. That doesn&#8217;t sound like a lot (and it isn&#8217;t) but that&#8217;s ALL they changed.</p>
<p>It doesn&#8217;t matter for our purposes&#8230; we want to lower insulin at night. Why? Insulin is not only dangerous for your health in excess but it also can cause a LOT of fat storage if secreted too much at night. Enter the lowly grapefruit. A great snack, especially if you have a few bites of lean protein<br />
with it.</p>
<p>3. <strong>Smell This!</strong></p>
<p>This is a trick I didn&#8217;t know about until recently.</p>
<p>Smelling food can trick your brain into thinking you&#8217;ve eaten.</p>
<p>A recent study found that those who inhaled peppermint in scent form every 2 hours at (get this) 2700 calories LESS per week than they normally did.</p>
<p>Let me put that in perspective:  <strong>That&#8217;s a fatloss of more than half a pound a week&#8230; from sniffing peppermint!</strong></p>
<p><strong>Vanilla also works</strong>. You can keep vanilla-scented drops or even candles around the office and take a wiff every few hours.</p>
<p>How easy is that?</p>
<p>&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;<br />
The Bad Part<br />
&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8212;&#8211;</p>
<p>The MSNBC article goes on with advice like &#8220;eat potatoes&#8221; and &#8220;eat just a little bit of fat&#8221;, both of which are nonsense.</p>
<p>Potatoes may fill you up, but they are still starch &#8211; and starch should be consumed on your &#8220;off&#8221; days.</p>
<p>Potatoes are especially bad due to the higher-than-desired glycemic index of 85 (anything over 50 is too high.)</p>
<p>You also need dietary fat&#8230; and not just &#8220;a little.&#8221; You need a moderate amount to stay healthy and keep insulin regulated.</p>
<p>Olive oil and even coconut oil are excellent sources, as are naturally occurring fats in fresh fish, grass-fed beef, farm-raised chicken and whole eggs.</p>
<p>The rest of the article is common sense stuff:  Workout, eat dense food that requires you to chew a lot (tire out the jaw muscles and you naturally eat less), etc.</p>
<p><strong>The top 3 are the real winners.</strong></p>
<p>I want to thank Jon for this information ( and as I knew Jon  explained it so much better than I could have.)</p>
<p>I like Jon&#8217;s style of writing and if you want to read more from Jon here is a bit more. My favorite is his information for those of us who are over 40,  since that is when I saw my metabolism slowing down and the booty getting a bit bigger.<br />

<p>Another good article appeared today in the fitness section of MSNBC.</p>
<p>Since you&#8217;re busy, I&#8217;ll do a quick summary of the article &#8212; the good stuff, the bad stuff, and what you need to do today to get started&#8230;</p>
<p>First, you need to know this&#8230;</p>
<p>And this will probably shock you&#8230;</p>
<p><strong>Rarely, if EVER, do you need to suppress your appetite!</strong></p>
<p>The real secret is to increase your metabolism&#8230; the rate at which your body uses food for fuel.</p>
<p>Then being hungry is a good thing&#8230; as long as you&#8217;re eating the right foods at the right time.</p>
<p>My &#8220;Favorite Foods&#8221; plan is a great way to do this&#8230;</p>

<p>But let&#8217;s say you want to curb your appetite at night&#8230;. that&#8217;s the time most people really lose it on a dietplan. Even on a plan that ASKS you to eat frequently like mine, there are times where night-time cravings need to be put to sleep.</p>
<p>So use these tips from the article to ease the urge to eat at night:</p>
<p><strong>1. Protein First</strong></p>
<p>As I say in my dietplan, &#8220;Rise and shine with protein.&#8221;  What does this have to do with night-time cravings you ask?</p>
<p>Everything.</p>
<p>Set the body up to use your own fat-stores for fuel by eating protein in the morning and your appetite FOR fatty foods goes way down during the day and the night. Protein is &#8220;thermogenic&#8221;, meaning it helps increase your metabolism. It also acts as a natural appetite regulator.</p>
<p>Notice I said &#8220;regulator&#8221; and not &#8220;suppressant.&#8221; That&#8217;s because you only need to regulate your appetite, no matter how much bodyfat you desire to drop.</p>

<p><strong>2. Go For The Grapefruit</strong></p>
<p>In a study at the Nutrition and Metabolic Research Center at the Scripps Clinic in San Diego, people who ate half a grapefruit with each meal lost an average of 3.6 pounds in three months. That doesn&#8217;t sound like a lot (and it isn&#8217;t) but that&#8217;s ALL they changed.</p>
<p>It doesn&#8217;t matter for our purposes&#8230; we want to lower insulin at night. Why? Insulin is not only dangerous for your health in excess but it also can cause a LOT of fat storage if secreted too much at night. Enter the lowly grapefruit.</p>
<p>A great snack, especially if you have a few bites of lean protein with it.</p>
<p><strong>3. Smell This!</strong></p>
<p>This is a trick I didn&#8217;t know about until recently.</p>
<p>Smelling food can trick your brain into thinking you&#8217;ve eaten.</p>
<p>A recent study found that those who inhaled peppermint in scent form every 2 hours at (get this) 2700 calories LESS per week than they normally did.</p>
<p>Let me put that in perspective:  That&#8217;s a fatloss of more than half a pound a week&#8230; from sniffing peppermint!</p>
<p>Vanilla also works. You can keep vanilla-scented drops or even candles around the office and take a wiff every few hours.</p>
<p>How easy is that?
</p>
<h2>The Bad Part</h2>
</p>
<p>The MSNBC article goes on with advice like &#8220;eat potatoes&#8221; and &#8220;eat just a little bit of fat&#8221;, both of which are nonsense.</p>
<p>Potatoes may fill you up, but they are still starch &#8211; and starch should be consumed on your &#8220;off&#8221; days.</p>
<p>Potatoes are especially bad due to the higher-than-desired glycemic index of 85 (anything over 50 is too high.)</p>
<p>You also need dietary fat&#8230; and not just &#8220;a little.&#8221; You need a moderate amount to stay healthy and keep insulin regulated.</p>
<p>Olive oil and even coconut oil are excellent sources, as are naturally occurring fats in fresh fish, grass-fed beef, farm-raised chicken and whole eggs.</p>
<p>The rest of the article is common sense stuff:  Workout, eat dense food that requires you to chew a lot (tire out the jaw muscles and you naturally eat less), etc.</p>
<p>The top 3 are the real winners.</p>
